Post-Show Recap: DataON at Microsoft Ignite 2017

Orlando is known for its theme parks and thrill rides. Last week, Microsoft provided over 25,000 people with a week-long thrill ride at Microsoft Ignite, showcasing tomorrow’s technology.

Microsoft Project Honolulu

Microsoft’s big story at Microsoft Ignite 2017 was the announcement of Project Honolulu for Windows Server 2016. It’s a locally deployed, browser-based management tool that enables on-premises administration of Windows Server with no Azure or cloud dependency. It gives IT admins full control over all aspects of their Server infrastructure and it particularly useful for management on private networks that are not connected to the Internet. It is complementary to System Center and Operations Management Suite, and it not intended to replace these products and services.

DataON’s exclusive MUST visibility, management, and monitoring tool for Windows Server environments will have complete integration with Project Honolulu, providing DataON customers the most a premium visibility, management and monitoring experience for Windows Server 2016 SDDC environments.

DataON Kepler-47

Microsoft was also excited to see the productization of their Project Kepler-47 HCI, which was showcased at Microsoft Ignite 2016.

Hundreds of people came by the DataON and Microsoft booths to see the DataON Kepler-47. It’s a low-cost 2-node appliance for Storage Spaces Direct and Hyper-V. It features a small form factor (both nodes can fit into your carry-on luggage) which is perfect for remote office/branch office (ROBO) environments where space for servers can be hard to come by. It also has a budget-friendly price (under $10k), helping to reduce costs when you need to support multiple remote sites. Intel Thunderbolt 3 technology connects the 2 nodes, eliminating the need for a networking switch.

Intel Select Solution for Windows Server Software-Defined Storage

Intel and DataON announced the first Intel Select Solution for Windows Server Software-Defined Storage. This solution features the new DataON TracSystem Lightning Series HCI which is powered by Intel Xeon Scalable processors with Intel C620 Series Chipsets and Intel Optane SSDs. The Lightning Series provides breakthrough performance of over 3.2M IOPS throughput, as well as dramatically reduced latency.

Intel’s goal for the Select Solution program is to accelerate the path from evaluation to installation for customers by providing a tested solution ‘recipe”.

IT Heroes Deploy Storage Spaces Direct

Storage Spaces Direct is becoming a more popular HCI choice for IT heroes everywhere. It’s a budget-friendly solution (it’s included with Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Edition) and supports millions of IOPS throughput, compared to VMware (only thousands of IOPS).

You can see some of the IT Heroes that visited our booth in our new video.

DataON Customer Stories

Four DataON customer stories were featured in Windows Server presentations at Microsoft Ignite 2017. Each of these customers replaced a traditional SAN in favor of a Windows Server 2016 and DataON solution, resulting in better performance, low cost and happy customers.
