New S2D-5000 Servers with Intel Purley Processors, Certified for Windows Server Software-Defined (WSSD)

In 2017, Intel launched their new Xeon Scalable processor family. The new “Purley” platform has been hailed as “the biggest data center advancement in a decade,” offering breakthrough performance to handle compute-hungry tasks including real-time analytics, virtualized infrastructure, and high-performance computing.

Since then our customers have been asking, when will DataON offer products with Purley processors?

Well, the answer is “now!”

DataON has just rolled out four new S2D-5000 hyper-converged cluster appliances for Windows Server 2016!

  • DataON S2D-5208i – A 1-node hybrid solution, optimized for IOPS and large capacity. The S2D-5208i connects to an external JBOD for the capacity tier.
  • DataON S2D-5212i – A 1-node hybrid solution, optimized for performance and cost.
  • DataON S2D-5224i – A 1-node all-NVMe or all-flash solution, optimized for IOPS and performance.
  • DataON S2D-5240i – A 4-node all-NVMe or all-flash solution, optimized for IOPS and density.

In addition to the obvious performance boost from the new processors, the new S2D-5000 systems also support Intel’s new Optane technology.  NVMe SSDs with Optane are faster than standard SSDs and have lower latency and higher endurance.

Combining the new Purley processors with Optane technology, the new S2D-5000 family can achieve over 3.2M IOPS in a 4-node cluster!

And if having the latest Intel technology isn’t enough to make you want one of our new servers, how about this: they are also Windows Server Software-Defined (WSSD) certified!

This means that the S2D-5000 family has been tested by Microsoft to make sure they include the right hardware with the right configuration to deploy in a Windows Server software-defined environment. And this is in addition to being certified for Windows Server 2016.
