Powering Safety and Security Solutions with DataON Integrated Solutions for AI at the Edge, StrategicVision and NVIDIA Technology

Technology has the power to transform how we live, work, communicate, and think. Imagine how different the world would have been without electricity, the combustion engine, the Internet, the smartphone, and social media? The evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) is likely to become one of the most transformative technologies in our lifetime. With the release of generative text and image creating applications like ChatGPT and DALL-E 2 as well as cutting edge GPUs and software development tools, 2023 has become the year of AI. We’re seeing use cases across all verticals, from retail to pharma to manufacturing and public safety &security.

DataON is partnering with Strategic Online Systems, Inc. (SOS), a risk mitigation company and managed service provider, to deliver DataON Integrated Solutions for AI at the Edge with StrategicVision. StrategicVision is a risk-mitigation solution that uses video, audio, badge scanners, environmental and proximity sensors, and more to do a wide variety of things like identify objects, license plates, faces, and pose estimation and detect behaviors and events that trigger alerts and apply action-based responses.  StrategicVision can help streamline businesses and organizations to do things that were once difficult if not impossible. For example, most businesses, organizations, cities, and schools already have installed CCTV cameras. But in many instances, there is usually not enough staff to recognize and respond to an adverse event in real time or compile visual and other data to make actionable insights and streamline inefficiencies.

StrategicVision can detect people in restricted areas, vehicles present during off hours, and occupancy counts by area. If anyone or anything is in the off-limits area, StrategicVision can automatically send alerts to your team and log the events. It can also keep track and count of people and vehicles entering and leaving designated areas.  StrategicVision can capture, read, and log license plates entering parking lots or passing by adjacent streets and cross check them with authorized vehicles in real-time. For example, to increase safety, a school can ask parents who regularly pick up their children to provide their license plates and driver’s licenses at the beginning of the school year. If a license plate that is not logged in the system is detected while waiting in line to pick up a student, the car can be flagged, and alerts sent out. School staff can then determine if the driver is a parent in a new car or a friend, babysitter, nanny, or family member with permission. This can better protect children from getting into cars they shouldn’t and improve speed and efficiency in pickup lines.  StrategicVision can be used in many other applications. For example, there might be students with medical conditions like epilepsy or severe autism. If one of the students has a seizure or extreme response to something that is upsetting, StrategicVision can detect a student on the ground or exhibiting erratic movements and alert teachers or trained medical staff to quickly respond. This application can also be used in skilled nursing facilities and hospitals to quickly detect if a patient falls, collapses or clenches his/her chest and instantly alerts a nurse or physician to help.

StrategicVision also enables organizations to quickly create a timeline of events. For each camera, StrategicVision identifies adjacent cameras and displays them alongside each other in the main console view in real time. This allows quick jumps to adjacent camera views without having to search the camera list manually. In the case of an adverse event, by working backwards from when the event started, a timeline can be built in minutes rather than hours. This can be helpful if a crime occurs and can be provided to law enforcement, especially if an investigation is time sensitive. StrategicVision also includes a complete monitoring and management solution that keeps track of disk performance, CPU/GPU, memory, connectivity, and performance.

StrategicVision runs on Azure Stack HCI, a cost-efficient, highly resilient, hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI). Being on-premises helps organizations to keep their data secure and private, eliminating the possibility of third-party cloud data breaches or unauthorized access. DataON Integrated Solutions for AI at the Edge include pre-installed Azure Stack HCI, DataON hardware, monitoring & management, cluster-aware updating, and StrategicVision software and services. Companies and organizations can run these solutions on a small footprint on as little as one- or two-node servers at the Edge.

DataON Integrated Solution for AI at the Edge utilizes leading AI technology from NVIDIA, including both cutting edge software and hardware. StrategicVision incorporates Metropolis, an application framework and set of developer tools that brings visual data and AI together to improve operational efficiency and safety, and the TAO toolkit, a set of AI training and optimization tools that deliver’s the world’s best Vision Transformers (ViTs) to create state-of-the-art computer vision models. Each DataON Integrated Solution for AI at the Edge is powered by the latest cutting-edge A40, A100, and other specialized NVIDIA GPUs, featuring NVIDIA Ampere architecture RT Cores, Tensor Cores, and CUDA® Cores.
